Voksi Adventure and Adventure North are lightweight and windproof sleeping bags that keep your child warm and protected. Both bags are designed in the same manner, but with different amounts of filling that provides varying degrees of warmth. Like other Voksi sleeping bags, they are designed and developed in Norway. However, there are certain features that set Voksi Adventure apart from regular sleeping bags. To find out exactly what these are, we had a chat with the design team's lead designer, Lina (in the middle).
What were you trying to achieve when you developed these sleeping bags?
We wanted to see how much raw material we could reduce and still achieve a high insulation capacity. We attempted to find the best possible balance between the amount of down and construction while using lightweight textiles. Throughout the process, we became better at discovering ways to save material and weight, and we collaborated closely with various testing institutes. We wanted a sleeping bag for families who spend a lot of time outdoors and want to take their children along. They would be familliar with this bag, as it's made in the same tecnical fabric as other outdoor clothing. This way, they can be sure their children are warm and comfortable in a Voksi Adventure sleeping bag.
What sets the Adventure sleeping bags apart from other sleeping bags?
It is significantly lighter than other traditional sleeping bags with the same degree of warmth. Sleeping bags are often like a big parka, whereas the Adventure is like a lightweight down jacket. A traditional sleeping bag typically weighs around 2 kg, but the Adventure weighs around 1 kg. Another unique design element is the arm openings that allow the child to take a more active part in the outdoor experience. It has unique features such as instead of adding an extension piece, you compress the foot end up under the child's legs. This gives the child extra down around the legs until the bag is completely filled, and you will get all the warmth the bag has to offer. It is genuinely unique and is also suitable for other uses, for example to keep the child warm in a bicycle trailer or a sled.
Did you encounter any challenges during the process?
Challenges are always a natural part of development, but finding solutions where the challenges lie is part of the fun of a development project. There are many choices and decisions to be made. A particular challenge with the Adventure sleeping bags was that they were developed during the pandemic. We were very anxious about whether the production models from the factory would meet our strict requirements. But they did!
What kind of feedback have you received about these sleeping bags?
The feedback has been fantastic! The sleeping bags have scored highly on several independent tests, which is incredibly exciting! It's clear that we have met a need that many people have.
